Universal Music agree terms for the use of some of their repertoire on BT Vision - as featured on Mi2N  Universal Music U.K., part of the Universal Music Group, the world's largest music company, and BT, announced an agreement for video-on-demand music videos to appear on BT's next-generation TV service, BT Vision, and also on Windows-compatible listening devices via the BT Vision download store. An interesting story in the Digital Music News regarding a licencing agreement between Pandora and The Orchard. This obviously could have wider implications on how services are licenced in the UK.  The Orchard has recently licensed its considerable independent catalog to Pandora Media, a long-running recommendation play. Pandora is now pushing into the UK market with a streaming radio service, a launch that is slated for later this year. The service, already live in the United States, allows users to initiate a custom-tailored stream of songs, starting with a favorite track. Write Comment |

European Digital Content Revenues to Boom - as featured in CMU  Revenues from online 'creative content' in Europe will increase fourfold in the next four years to 8.3 billion euros (which is about 5 and half billion pounds). Or, at least, that's the opinion of a new European Commission report, which reckons that 20% of the music market will go online in the next four years, while 33% of the gaming market will come from online services. And while the movie industry will probably only draw 7% of its revenues from the net, that will be a massive increase in itself, amounting to over a billion euros in 2010 compared to just 18 million euros last year. Interesting story in the New York Times about the music industries softening on the approach of a global licence fee. A system which is similar to that proposed by the likes of Playlouder which would see royality payments collected through monthly ISP fees.
