It has been a while since we last brought you some YouTube News, to make up for this deficiency we have decided to bring you three at once! Were calling it the good, the bad and the ugly.
 
 The Good is the fact that YouTube have announced a revenue share with its user – that’s nice. The bad depends on your prospective as the Digital Media Wire announces that users of YouTube watch less TV – therefore only really bad for TV producers and networks. Lastly the ugly is a story covered by a number of newsletters and relates to the anger of independent labels over the deal on the table which offers them less money than had been agreed with the majors.

Live Nation taps into Last.fm's audience - as featured in Digital Music News
 
 Concert giant Live Nation recently revealed a deal with Last.fm, an innovative music recommendation and social networking startup.  The alliance will give Live Nation direct access to the Last.fm audience of 15 million users. The arrangement calls for Live Nation to provide up-to-the-minute concert information to its fans and offer links to purchase tickets. "Our objective is to make LiveNation.com the world's definitive online live music destination where fans can search for concerts, buy tickets and connect with other fans,” said Bryan Perez, head of digital distribution at Live Nation.

 And so to Cannes, and news from our MIDEM man, which almost rhymes. Key players in the independent music sector used the digital music thingimy that precedes the main bit of MIDEM (still not sure why MIDEM still separate the digital bit from the other bit, given that pretty much everything industry people discuss these days is digital, but whatever) to officially launch a new organisation that will negotiate new media licensing deals on behalf of affiliated indie labels.

Concerns over ability to broadcast online using MP3 format after new DRM legislation being passed in the US - as feaured in Computer World
 
 Consumer rights groups have voiced opposition to legislation introduced in Congress last week that would require Internet broadcasters to deploy DRM (digital rights management) technology to prevent listeners from making unauthorized copies of music files.
